NT Mines & Energy - Geological Environmental Management Information System (GEMIS)

The Client

The Department of Business, Industry and Resource Development (DBIRD) is responsible for the development of the Northern Territory's business and resource industries and includes the Minerals and Energy.

For Minerals and Energy, a major component of the unit is to maintain data sampling from mine sites, and in particular water quality.

The Challenges

DBIRD is responsible for management of both internally collected check monitoring data as well as all data reported by mines as a regulatory requirement. Data was being maintained in numerous spreadsheet files that contain information detailing the detection of various chemicals at various known sites, the main data set being Water Quality.

A system was required to load and manage this information into a single data repository.

The Solution

SRA have been involved in design and development activities for the GEMIS database. In particularly SRA was addressing specific functional areas, including:

• Data loading and importing disparate data files;
• Management of parameters for reporting against data validation processes.

SRA currently has an on-going maintenance arrangement with DBIRD to support the application.
