SRA Succeeds with Oracle Application Express (September 2007)
Application Express allows genuine rapid application development whilst retaining the power of the Oracle database. Developments are fast enough to enable screens to be prototyped for end users rather than mocked up using static images. Applications developed using Application Express are stored in the database. There are no database layers, methods or classes; just fast, direct access to the data.
SRA has been able to harness its existing Oracle knowledge so that developers are productive in Application Express with very little training.
A recent project for a Federal department was running late in the gathering of requirements, thus reducing the time available to develop and deliver the pilot. With two experienced Oracle resources and Application Express, the pilot was delivered on time with no issues. It is unlikely this would have been achievable in other development environments.
Because applications developed in Application Express are stored in the database, they are very portable. A very simple export/import process is used to move or migrate applications.
